Media: SEGA Reveals Iron Man 2 at Comic Con for April 2010

Without a doubt, Iron Man has to be one of my favorite Marvel movies, and I can't wait for the sequel. The game, on the other hand, felt like it had a good base to work from, but dropped the ball in some other pretty serious areas.
SEGA, however, is not deterred, and is taking full advantage of their license to make Iron Man video games, as was evidenced by their debut of the trailer for Iron Man 2 at Comic Con:
As it turns out, this is not your typical movie-based game; it features an all-new story by comics writer Matt Fraction, one which is not based on the upcoming movie sequel, but includes elements from both the comic and movie universes. But like a number of Spider-man titles before it, we will likely get to see movie-styled versions of comic book foes who don't appear in the actual film, such as the Crimson Dynamo.
According to SEGA Creative Director "Kyle," it's easier for the game's producers and developers when they aren't tied to the story of the movie, as they are then free to do whatever they wish. He adds that throughout development, they would constantly ask themselves "Why is this Iron Man's problem?" as they did not want to put anything in that could be handled by the police or military. According to them, this should result in more exciting and challenging gameplay.
According to SEGA's blog, "The development team at SEGA Studios San Francisco has also paid close attention to the comments from fans and critics concerning the first Iron Man movie game. As a result of this feedback, Iron Man 2 will feature a greater focus on powerful hand-to-hand combat, as well as a completely redesigned control scheme, making it more fun for gamers to feel the power and strength of Iron Man."
Players can expect to find destructible environments within the game, as well as "epic enemies, innovative hand-to-hand combat moves, and other features from the film and comic book."
The game is due in April of 2010, just prior to the release of the next film. You can read more about the premiere and check out some neat photos of the cool "Stark Industries" stage from the Marvel booth, wherein four iterations of Shellhead's movie armor are on display, by clicking this link.

"Iron Man 2 presented me with the opportunity to work with both SEGA and Marvel on creating something wholly unique, - a story that exists at the crossroads of the comics I write, the film universe I was lucky enough to be asked to contribute to, and a wholly immersive interactive experience like this game," says Matt Fraction. "Writing a game presents an entirely new challenge, where the player engages with the world, with the big and small aspects of the place and characters. They're a co-conspirator in the narrative. I hope it's as exciting and challenging to play as it was to write."
