Square Enix 'Exploring the Option' of FFXIII DLC
September 1, 2009 | 7:07 AM PST

Downloadable content is starting to remind me of substance abuse as it's portrayed in mainstream media: everybody's doin' it, so why shouldn't you? The "you" in this case being Square Enix, and the potential DLC in question for Final Fantasy XIII.

Succumbing to figurative peer pressure, it seems Square Enix is brainstorming potential DLC scenarios for Final Fantasy XIII. In an interview with RPG Site during GamesCom, Final Fantasy XIII producer Yoshinori Kitase was asked if his company had any plans to use Xbox Live or the PlayStation Network.

"Our plans for the online networks are currently unclear," Kitase told RPG Site. "We are exploring the option of downloadable content, perhaps adding new areas, items or enemies, but these would not be expansions to the story, only the gameplay. The entire story of FF13 will be on the disc."

Good news for dungeon crawlers and grind monkeys, bad news for people like me, who need a little more... substance to their DLC. Flavor. If I wanted to run around pickin' fights in RPG dungeons I'd just go buy World of Warcraft. Not that I have to buy any DLC if it comes to pass. But enough about me, what do you think, gentle readers? Would side-mission content released over Xbox Live and/or PSN appeal to you?
