Final Fantasy is known worldwide as Square Enix's most prolific franchise, so there was little doubt that the company has high hopes for the 13th installment. In an interview with Kotaku Japan (translated by Kotaku proper), Square Enix president Yoichi Wada stated that the company desires to sell more than 6 million copies of the anticipated RPG, which would surpass the 6 million sold by Final Fantasy XII.
For reference, Square Enix's other major Japanese release of 2009, Dragon Quest IX, has sold over 3.7 million. Assuming that Square Enix is referring to worldwide sales, they should have little trouble meeting this goal, especially with the game being on multiple platforms in North America and Europe.
