Japan Studio Plans to Kick it into High Gear for 2010 and Beyond

Sony's studio over in Japan has yet to bring its "A" game. Nearly all of the noteworthy Sony exclusives - Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank, Killzone, LittleBigPlanet, etc. - have all been the fruits of SCEE and SCEA's labor. While we have seen a few products from Japan Studio, titles like Siren and The Eye of Judgement simply aren't enough to convince gamers to pick up a PS3.

Boss of Sony's Worldwide Studios, Shuhei Yoshida explains the reason behind this in an interview with Gamasutra. To put it simply, Japan Studios has been busy developing for the PSP and as such, there hasn't been much time to work with the PS3. "It's completely opposite of the way how US and European teams moved onto working on the PS3 and we see the fruits of those efforts, while Japan studios shifted their focus onto the PSP," Yoshida said.
Fortunately, it looks like that will all change come 2010. According to Yoshida, "We are now re-energizing teams and coming up with new ideas for PS3 development. We'll be able to show fruits of this work sometime next year." With Gran Turismo 5 and Last Guardian expected to hit store shelves next year, it looks like Sony will be delivering on that promise. Let's just hope their momentum doesn't stop there.
