Wada Says "Too Much IP Use is Bad, Says Final Fantasy Will Not Become Exhausted

"Too much IP use is not good," said Square Enix President and Chief Executive Officer Yoichi Wada, who spoke on the possibility of the Final Fantasy franchise being in danger of exhaustion at the Montreal International Game Summit. "Having memorable characters and back story is crucial to having a powerful IP," he added.
An interesting statement, to be sure, and it only gets better from there. Wada goes on to explain how they plan to keep the franchise from wearing out its welcome.
According to Final Fantasy Union, "Wada followed up with a statement referring to Mickey Mouse and how his character has not become exhausted, and people still see the character everywhere after over sixty years."
Clearly, Wada hasn't spoken with Disney or Warren Spector much lately.
"As long as there is a world with enough content and story," Wada explained, "players will feel comfortable being in the same world for extended periods of time." He then elaborated, emphasizing the importance of having a well-written back story for the Fabula Nova Crystallis series, and said the worlds of Final Fantasy are what keep it all fresh.
Still, it's difficult to take a statement such as this seriously. As Destructoid points out, "when you announce Final Fantasy XIV before XIII's even released, not to mention the two other games shipping with the XIII name, and that's in between Crystal Chronicles, various DS remakes, and a host of spin-offs, one could be forgiven for becoming just a little bit tired of the Final Fantasy name."
