Gadget site T3 is reporting an interesting rumor today. According to the site, Sony plans to release an updated, thinner version of its PlayStation 3 next-gen console. The site claims that this new PS3 model will be called "PS3 Slim." Unfortunately, T3 does not have much information beyond this, but it does speculate that the PS3 Slim could be the same thing as the rumored 160GB PS3. What's more, it whipped up this spiffy "concept" of what the PS3 Slim could look like.
T3 says it heard this "juicy" bit of news while roaming the CES show floor back in early January. GamesIndustry.biz contacted Sony for comment on the rumor and was greeted with the oh-so-expected "we don't comment on rumor or speculation" response.
Sony has a history of slimming its hardware down. All of its systems to date, except for the PS3, have been re-released with a slimmer form factor and appearance, those slimmer systems being PSone, PStwo and PSP Slim.
We'll have more as we hear it.

Editor's Take: Considering Sony's track record with re-releasing slimmer versions of its game systems, I wouldn't be surprised to see a "PS3 Slim" at some point in the future. But this soon? PS3 has only been available on the market for a little over a year. I think it's a bit early for this.
