It seems "too little, too late" is in the vogue right now, with Microsoft's tribute to the deceased HD-DVD, and now, Factor 5's not-so-timely addition of analog controls (as opposed to janky motion controls) to Lair. This gesture, while appreciated, was clamored for when Lair first hit the shelves...in August of 2007. The patch, unfortunately, is coming to PSN on April 17, 2008.
Will this resuscitate the dragon sim's hopes of becoming a top-tier game and selling millions?
Knowing what we do, we're not getting our hopes up. But analog's not all the patch is packing; it will also add DualShock 3 support, allowing you to experience each and every rumble and reverberation on the battlefield. Flying triumphantly alongside rumble and analog control is a targeting icon that, well, we're really surprised the game didn't already have one. Last, and probably least, Factor 5 is tossing in the ability to download Poison and Wind dragons for use in all stages; but generally, enemy soldiers and dragons fall to fire more quickly than they do to poison or a gentle breeze.
So, are these updates incentive enough to plunk down some cash for a new copy of Lair? Probably not, but at least they'll give previous Lair buyers some nice bonuses -- even if those bonuses should've been on Lair's massive Blu-ray disc to begin with.

Editor's Take: It's good to see that Sony finally allowed Factor 5 to complete Lair. Really, it seems like Sony is finally capitulating on "last-gen" technologies in general; only a year ago, they were decrying rumble and claiming that imprecise motion controls were the correct method of piloting a colossal, lumbering beast. (Now that I think about it, that actually makes sense, but at the expense of fun.) Regardless, good show, Sony and Factor 5, but next time, how about giving the people what they want when the game launches, instead of waiting half-a-year?
