Sony has come under a good bit of fire from the gaming community over the numerous delays surrounding the PlayStation Home beta. An occasional reminder that delays oftentimes help produce a better product than what would have otherwise been an incomplete experience wouldn't hurt, however.

That's just what Sony PSN boss Eric Lempel echoed in a recent interview with Next Gen. According to him, the Home beta is still slated to release this fall season. Even more importantly, we'll be getting a product with a very complete feature set, minus a few additions to be added at a later date. "The reason we've been delaying [Home] is so that we can deliver a high quality service that the users will enjoy," he noted. "Even though it will be in beta, it will be a fair representation of what the service can be and its potential, so it won't be a 0.5 release, it will be a fully robust service."

He also touched on the upcoming movie download service for the PS3: "I don't have any more specifics right now, but like Kaz [Hirai] said, it will go live [in the US] this summer and I think it will offer consumers everything they're looking for from us. It will offer everything they expect from us and probably a little bit more."

Honestly I'd rather have me a hard disc copy of a movie rather than a digital version, for versatility reasons if nothing else. Glad to hear that Sony's finally catching up to Microsoft in this department, though.
