Resident Evil 5 Demo Not Confirmed for PSN After All; Will Capcom Remove it from Xbox Live After One Week?
January 15, 2009 | 9:26 AM PST
Well, this is... interesting.
Yesterday, we brought you Capcom's press release which states that:
The next installment of the landmark survival horror franchise from Capcom will take action to a new level with a two-level, playable demo available exclusively on Xbox 360 for one week beginning Monday, January 26.
Stating that it is coming to Xbox Live exclusively for one week, the natural conclusion to draw is that after that time, it will be made available on PSN. But the natural conclusion isn't always the correct one...
Of course, the expected reaction would be "where else would it go? The Wii?" (note the last part is a touch of sarcasm). But could the real answer be "away?"
Videogaming247 attempted to get some sort of clarification from either Capcom or Sony regarding the matter.
Sony has told VG247 that it isn't "told about 3rd party releases on the PSN until they go live" and Capcom says it has "nothing further to announce regarding the RE5 demo at the moment." -- videogaming247
All in all, this is a very peculiar situation. With this new evidence, one can draw one of two conclusions:
1) One week after the Resident Evil 5 demo hits Xbox Live, the PlayStation Network will get it, Capcom and Sony get to torment their fans for a little while in the meantime, and life goes on.
2) One week after the Resident Evil 5 demo hits Xbox Live, Capcom and Microsoft will remove the demo from the service, making it so that no one can get it after the "one week exclusive" timespan.
Would Capcom and Microsoft do such a thing? I don't know, but I'm going to see if I can at least get to the bottom of what this "one week exclusive" deal means. Hopefully they'll go for it, because otherwise, why announce something if you're not willing to clarify what it means?
